Twitter Tests Facebook-Like Feature for Easy Tweeting

Twitter is experimenting with a new feature -- that sort of works like a Facebook wall -- aimed at simplifying communication between people following each other on the social network.

The feature lets people reply quickly and easily to other users through a text field that appears on the other user's Twitter page.

"It's a feature we're testing with a small percentage of users that makes it easier for users to engage with each other on Twitter," a Twitter spokeswoman said about the new feature.

Writing directly on another Twitter user's page is similar to writing on a Facebook contact's wall, where users can share comments, photos, videos and links.

Link Building - Major Part in Search Engine Optimization

Link building is a big part of SEO. Unfortunately, many new site owners seem to either not fully understand what goes into link building or they have old, outdated information. In either case, not knowing what you are doing can have its drawbacks. It can cause you not to rank well and in extreme cases, it can get you banned.

Many large companies hire people to create a “link campaign”. The problem is that many companies don’t know what they need and the link builder in some cases only has one method of building links.

The most common link building method is link exchanges. Though search engines like Google frown on them, they can be an effective strategy for raising page rank. For some businesses, however, there simply aren’t a whole lot of people to exchange links with. The biggest problem I see on a regular basis is when people just link to whoever. The link may or may not be related and they always seem to link to a “link page” with reciprocals to either their homepage or back to their own link page. This is not the way to go.

You have other pages of your site. Targeting each page’s keywords with those back links will help you in the rankings. If you must exchange links, spread them throughout your site. Have the incoming links support other pages, not just your homepage. Also don’t exchange links with unrelated sites. These can cause your site to be incompletely crawled and in severe cases, get can you banned.

Exchanging links with other low PR and heavily reciprocal linking sites will not do you good in ranking well on the engines. The only exception occurs when you can link to a new site that is related and that you feel will eventually have a high PR. In other words, sometimes getting in on the ground floor is a good idea.

Buying links is great, if you know where and how to buy them. Use the same rules as exchanging links above. Always make sure the site is related to what you offer. Don’t be afraid to buy a link on a site if you feel it will drive in quality traffic.

Article submissions are popular, and for good reason. Just write an article and submit it to article syndication sites. It’s highly effective and can be very useful if done correctly. I see many companies fail to take advantage of the anchor text in the articles and when they do it almost always goes straight to the homepage. I also notice a lot of poorly written articles. If you want your article to be placed on other sites or are planning to build your brand, a poorly written article will not help you.

There are many other ways of getting links, but these are the most common. Hopefully, this will leave you with the correct impression that linking is not all about quantity. It is about the quality of the links, the content around them, the pages they are on and the pages they link to.

Top Five SEO Mistakes

Today, I'm going to point out the biggest SEO mistakes webmasters and newbies do.

Here are The Five SEO Mistakes that webmasters and newbies must avoid while optimizing a website. So, lets start:

1. Non-SEO Friendly Website Structure:
In order to achieve good search engine visibility and before starting any SEO campaign, website must be coded cleanly according to search engine guidelines and parameters.

2. Using Javascript, Silverlight or Flash for Site Navigation:
Search engine spiders are blind to Javascripts, flash, silverlight or any other RIA platform till date. Any navigation/menu system done purely in Javascript/flash/silverlight is a disaster because search engines will not see those links and therefore your listings on search engines will be very very limited.

3. No Keyword Research or Wrong keyword Selection:This is the most common mistake we often see. Many website owners/webmasters put very little or no effort at all to perform research into the keywords for which they should rank highly.

we have also seen many many businesses target key phrases that are far too competitive, such as single word keywords, which are difficult to rank well for, especially for newly developed websites. Newbie SEO practitioners will also try and place lots of keywords and key phrases all on one page in an attempt to rank highly for all of them.

This completely dilutes the thematic relevance of the page and hence hurts the website authority. Of course, website owners then wonder why they does NOT rank well for any of the key phrases they have selected.

4. Using Text in Images:
This is still happening far too often. Either the important text on a page being displayed in an image, or the whole page looking like it’s been scanned in by a student with access to Microsoft word and a printer. Search engine can’t read text present in the images. You can better use Image Alt tags to better target your keywords.

5. Poor Internal Link Strategy:Links connects all your pages in the website and allow the traffic to flow. Search engines put a lot of weight on links, and the words that are used in the link text (anchor text). Many web owners/webmaster use words in internal links like “click here” and “learn more”. Don’t make this mistake; use descriptive words in your link text which describes what the target page is about. Anchor text tell the search engine about the page that is linked on and hence help to better determine your website theme relevancy.

This list is by no means definitive but I Will Highlights Some More Important Points in my future posts… stay tune..

Off-Page SEO Methods

When used in conjunction with On-page Optimization, these Off-page Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques will help maximize your site's performance in search engines - increasing the amount of exposure, traffic, and revenue for your niche website. Scroll down to discover more about off page SEO and how it plays a key factor in improving your website's future development and effectiveness online!

What Is Off-page Optimization?

Off-page Optimization (or Off-page SEO) is part of the overall search engine optimization (SEO) process. The SEO process includes three stages:

   1. SEO content writing - Initial steps of SEO.
   2. On-page Optimization - Implementing SEO techniques into a website's structure.
   3. Off-page Optimization - Using SEO techniques outside of a website's structure.

Around 80% of your SEO efforts depend on Off-page optimization. So, in order for the full SEO process to work properly, both On-page and Off-page techniques should be implemented (according to your niche and keywords).

Let’s See How Off-page Optimization Works?
The main concept of Off-page SEO is to obtain links from higher ranked websites that are relevant to your niche and keywords. In order to work, On-page optimization must compliment your Off-page efforts in regards to relevance and keyword usage. Why?
  • Search engines like Google determine a website's importance based on authority. Authority is determined by both the contents present on your website, and by the inbound and outbound links of your website.
  • The number of inbound links a site is a better "popularity" cue for Google, because it shows that your site is popular to others. Thus, bettering the chance of achieving a higher Page Rank for your niche and keywords.
  • Search engines will crawl higher ranked websites more often, so aim to achieve inbound links from sites with better rankings so that your site can benefit as well.
  • Your website quality (what others think of your site) is a key factor in obtaining inbound links and achieving a higher Page Rank. Content-poor sites will have difficulty attracting links, so make sure that you have unique and informative content.
Off-page SEO Techniques
After performing keyword-based, internal linking operations for On-page optimization, employ the following Off-page SEO techniques to increase your site's external links and Page Rank. Search engines can tell the difference between relevant and irrelevant links, so make sure your inbound links come from sites with similar keywords and niche subjects!
  • Blog about your Niche Topic (Blogging) – Get leading visitors to your website via external links.
  • Link Campaigns - Asking websites (that are correspond with your niche) to provide links
  • Link Exchanges - swapping links with another websites.
                    One way link building
Two way link building (Reciprocal Link)
                    Three way link building
                    Multi-way linking
  • Market your Site on Other Sites (Classified Ads) - Craigslist is a well known classifieds site that has a very high page rank. To join, simply choose the category that your site belongs to, and post an advertisement (with a link). It doesn’t matter if no one reads it, what a matter is that search engines can find your site in an external location.
  • Social Bookmarking - Perform (and even offer) this by joining up with sites like Digg, Slashdot and Stumble Upon.
  • Comment Posting - Post or comment about your website in topic-related forums and blogs.
  • PPC Campaigns – Participate in these campaigns to publish your website links in blogs and websites that may be unreachable otherwise.
  • Press Release Submissions - Include fresh, interesting information related to your site.
  • Public Relations - Provide PR for your website in both good times and bad.
  • RSS Feeds - Submit information to an RSS feed or publish your own news though RSS syndication. Other websites pick up RSS feeds and publish news stories (which can include a link back to your site, of course).
  • Search Engine Submissions (SES) for popular programs like Google, Yahoo, and MSN.
  • Social Networking - Create your website's personality via Facebook and Twitter - linking back to your site for reference
  • Articles - Write articles and submit them to relevant topic sites like Squidoo, Hubpage etc - linking back to your site for reference.

On-Page SEO Methods

On-page SEO simply refers to the text and content on your web site pages. Basically editing your page and content so the Search Engine can find your webpage when a surfer is searching for your web sites particular topic.

History:

On-page Search Engine Optimization has been around the longest, since the beginning of search engines. Search engines used simpler less sophisticated technology a few years ago, and the world wide web was a lot smaller. At the time On-page SEO worked years ago, and it was basically an easy comparison. As the World Wide Web grew larger and larger it became more difficult for search engines to differentiate between your site and other sites. A search on "Autos" may return 100 million + pages that have the word "Auto" on it. So Off-page SEO began to take off as the world wide web and search engines grew in complexity.

On-page Elements:

On-page Elements refer to the html tags within the page. They include Heading Tags (<H1>), Title Tags, Bold Tags, Italic tags on your web page.

Natural On-page SEO:

Your Search Phrases should be emphasized in a natural way for both the visitor and the search engine spider. Do not "Keyword Stuff" your web page, by repeating the search phrase over and over again in your web page. This will often results in a Search Engine "Penalty" and move your sites ranking Lower in the results.

Unethical/Unsavory On-page Techniques:

There are several different techniques known as "black hat" or "unethical" On-page Techniques. Some SEO companies engage in these type of activities and should be avoided. Sooner or later the search engines will catch up to these unethical techniques and the likely result will be your site being demoted or banned from the search engines. We recommend the following unethical SEO techniques should not be used.

Negative On-page SEO Techniques Include:

Avoid Using "hidden" or invisible text on your page for the purpose of higher search engine optimization placement. For example the words/text for search phrase "Widget" in the html, the font color has been set to White. The background of the page is also white. Therefore the textual content is actually there, however the words are "hidden" from the surfer. This is frowned upon by search engines and frequently results in your site being penalized.

In Summary "On-page" SEO is important however it has lost some importance over the years do to the ever expanding growth of the internet and complexity in search engine technology.
